What we’re looking for (this has changed quite a bit!):

  • Full novel manuscripts 100,000+ words) in the genres of LitRPG, romance, and erotica

    • We are currently only open to those three genres: LitRPG, romance, and erotica

  • Nef House is interested in “first rights” publishing. We are not particularly excited to see submissions of works that have been previously published unless there is considerable sales history behind the project. Stories currently available in web serial format (Royal Road, Wattpad, etc.) are fine!

How to submit:

  • Send a brief query letter in the body of your email (shorter the better. The sample is mostly what matters)

  • Send the first chapter (~3,000 words) in the body of your email beneath your query letter

  • DO NOT send any documents as attachments

  • Authors living and working outside the United States are welcome to submit

What you’ll receive and when:

  • ALL submissions receive a personal response - NO FORM LETTERS [Please add our email address to your contacts]

  • Depending on volume, expect to hear a decision from us within 1 month. If you have not heard back within 45 days, please check your spam folder

  • If we like your sample, we’ll request the full manuscript for review

  • If we like the full manuscript, we’ll start a discussion about a contract and production

  • All Nef House books are produced to the finest standards of quality. Rest assured that your book will be professionally produced (at no cost to you) using top-notch editors, proofers, artists, and formatters. Everything we publish is designed to be indistinguishable from books on the shelves at your local bookstore

  • A strong, dedicated, and well-funded marketing campaign. A lot of small presses don’t market their authors nearly hard enough. With Nef House, you’ll get a dedicated ad manager assigned to your author brand, personalized ad stacks putting your book in front of millions of potential customers, and so much more—all at no cost to you, of course

Our rates:

  • Typical contracts include eBook, paperback, and audiobook rights. Please note that we do not include hardcover or foreign language rights in our contracts, and authors are free to pursue those avenues on their own if they wish

  • We pay royalties at 25% of what is collected by the press, regardless of media type (eBook vs. paperback, etc.). That means if total aggregate sales across all platforms totals $1000 for a month, the author will receive $250. No marketing or production costs are ever counted against royalties

  • Our contracts run for a minimum of 5 years

  • Royalties paid monthly

  • Nef House now offers advances up to $2,000 to established authors as well as LitRPG authors

What does it cost you:

  • Absolutely nothing

  • Nef House is a small press, not a vanity press or any other kind of scam. You never pay a dime to be published—and run from any publisher who tells you anything different
